[correction] Rnd 1: 8 dc around. 8 sts

The following instructions and st counts should now be correct.

  1. Elmer the elephant in issue 44, the instructions for the ears don’t work out! Row1 of both ears should have 30 stitches, but actually the pattern when worked out only has 23, I think a colour has been missed out, my question is, do I add another colour on the last 7 stitches of the chain with dc’s

Row 8 (Dec row) works out with 30 stitches!

I would like a prompt reply if possible as making this for my granddaughter’s birthday in 2 weeks time!

    Thank you

    • Hi Sylvia
I’ve just double checked the pattern, and with the repeats, you should finish row 1 with 30 sts 🙂 I wonder if you might have missed out a repeat? Colour B increases are repeated 4 times, colour H twice, and colour F 4 times – giving a total of 10 extra stitches which should finish the row with 30. Do ensure you repeat everything in the [ ] brackets as directed too, and not just the increased (each colour reads [1 dc, 2 dc in next st] so this whole instruction should be repeated.

I hope this helps! Please aslo note there is some minor errata for Elmer on our website – https://www.crochetnow.co.uk/6453/issue-44-errata/

      Cheers,
      Jenny

      • Thanks for your prompt reply Jenny, I think instead of crocheting the 2 dc in next st, 4 times, I did 2dc into next stitch & mistakenly crocheted 1 dc in next 4 stitches, hence the shortage of stitches. I can now get the ears done correctly & get Elmer finished! Thanks for a great pattern
