You'll need:

  • Two pairs of 10mm knitting needles
  • Scrap wood measuring approx 15 x 40cm
  • Superglue
  • Mini hacksaw
  • Small pot of paint in colour of your choice
  • Small quantity of wood filler (optional)
  • Drill and 10mm masonry drill bit

Here's how you make it:

1. Start off with your bamboo needles - the wood which makes these up is relatively soft, and they're inexpensive to buy, so are perfect for this project. Using the hacksaw, saw off the top and the point of 3 of the needles.

2. Next place one of the needles into the centre of the piece of wood - mark off the ends with a pencil.

3. Using the drill and taking the appropriate for yourself and your surroundings, drill through the wood on the in the centre of the wood on the inside of the pencil markings.

4. Line the holes with superglue and insert the bamboo needles, allowing time for them to dry in place to affix them. After this, you may want to use snapper to get rid of excess glue.

5. In the final bamboo needle, cut a small notch into each end on the same side. Glue the underneath of this notch and place on top of the top upright needles. Apply pressure and allow to dry.

6. At this point, we used small amounts of wood filler to plug up any gaps between the needles or splits in the bamboo for a smoother finish. Apply as necessary, allow to dry and using sandpaper, sand back to a smooth surface.

7. Paint with your choice of paint and leave to dry. You may want to use a few coats for proper coverage.

8. And voila, Daisy's got somewhere to hang her clothes!
